## Provision text

### 51(1)

Elke lidstaat bepaalt dat één of meer onafhankelijke overheidsinstanties verantwoordelijk zijn voor het toezicht op de toepassing van deze verordening, teneinde de grondrechten en fundamentele vrijheden van natuurlijke personen in verband met de verwerking van hun persoonsgegevens te beschermen en het vrije verkeer van persoonsgegevens binnen de Unie te vergemakkelijken („toezichthoudende autoriteit”).
