Certain exceptions to such a prohibition are provided for in Article 9(2) of the GDPR. As is apparent from Article 9(2)(g) of that regulation, that prohibition is not to apply, inter alia, where processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, on the basis of EU or Member State law which is to be proportionate to the aim pursued, respect the essence of the right to data protection and provide for suitable and specific measures to safeguard the fundamental rights and the interests of the data subject.
