Article 2(1) of the Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany) of 23 May 1949 (BGBl. 1949 I, p. 1), in the version applicable to the dispute in the main proceedings, is worded as follows: ‘Every person shall have the right to free development of his or her personality in so far as he or she does not violate the rights of others or offend against the constitutional order or the moral law.’
